Monday

Watch The Sunrise

We know getting out of bed is tough, and it doesn't have to be Monday, but pick one day a week — maybe when you have a late start or a bit of extra time — grab yourself a takeaway coffee, and watch the world wake up slowly. Here in Port Douglas, we're blessed with some cracking places to view the dawn – a walk on Four Mile Beach, outdoor yoga in Rex Smeal Park, the Flagstaff Hill walking track looking out over the Coral Sea. And while it's a little too early for cocktails, earmark a few local watering holes in your travels and head back in the afternoon for a sundowner.

Tuesday

Hit Up A Pub Trivia Night

An easy win is bonding with your mates over a little bit of friendly competition. The team that plays together stays together, and all that jazz. Just make sure you've got someone to smash each topic — geography, film, music, history, current events and sport. Get the beer rounds flowing and test your collective smarts. On Tuesdays, head to Paddy’s Irish Pub for a pint and a spot of trivia with local Trivia Master, KStar. Great prizes to be won including everything from cocktail and dinner vouchers to reef trips and accommodation prizes.

wednesday

Sip watching the Sunset

Catching some rays each day can help to clear your mind and improve your mood. Overlooking the majestic Daintree mountains and the picturesque Coral Sea, lies Rex Smeal Park. Arguably one of Port Douglas’s most photographed spots, the palm tree fringed edge is a popular spot for picnics, weddings, tight-rope walkers and ukulele players. Lovers and bohemians aside, the park is also privy to the best sunset this side of, well, the West Coast.

thursday

Get All High Brow Over Books

Tagging your mates in memes is fun, but why not discuss something a little deeper? The aim of the game is simple: chat to the gals at Whileaway Bookstore to help choose book that’ll be good for the conversation, then discuss over wine at neighbouring Jimmy’s Mixing Lounge. How very civilised. For inspiration, check out the classic Jack Kerouc's ‘On The Road’ — a young couple’s hedonistic search for fulfilment through drink, sex, drugs and jazz that becomes an exploration of personal freedom and a test of the limits of the American Dream; or for something a little lighter, Liane Moriarty’s ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ – a story of nine stressed city dwellers keen to drop their literal and mental baggage, and absorb the meditative ambience while enjoying their hot stone massages at a wellness retreat. What could possibly go wrong…?

Friday

Go To The Theatre

Sure it's great to veg out, watch every new original Netflix series that's been released and completely disengage. We get it, it's important to turn the mind off. But, it's also important to keep it stimulated — our parents did say too much TV would turn the brain to mush, right? Look to the theatre. It's like IRL television and it doesn't have to be inaccessible, overly artsy and incredibly dull. The Clink Theatre is an independent theatre doing exciting, hilarious, and incredibly entertaining work with local performers as well as visiting touring companies. Check out their program online and indulge in the thrill of live performance.

Saturday

Go For An Early Morning Walk

Start your weekend off in a wholesome manner with a walk along Four Mile Beach, the jewel of Port Douglas! Best beach in the world, so the locals say. From the main street Port Douglas, you can walk to the beach in under 5 minutes and then continue to walk along the sandy beach for hours while the waves tickle for toes. No matter where the day takes you thereafter, you'll feel good. Honestly, it's just science — exercise releases endorphins, and endorphins make you happy —winning.

Sunday

Enjoy A Long Lunch With Friends

The Ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus spent his days pondering what made life worth living, eventually, he concluded that great food shared among even better friends resulted in a good life. We concur. Enjoy an Epicurean moment of your own with a long, lazy lunch at Salsa Bar & Grill, modern Italian at Sassi e Cuchina or a head to Seabean later in the afternoon for Spanish tapas and sangria.
