Let’s face it though, when on holidays there’s no faster way to pack on the porky bits than by sucking down countless pina coladas poolside. It’s practically torture to calorie count at the breakfast buffet let alone find the motivation to hit the hotel gym. However, not all holidays need to sabotage your bikini bod – turns out there’s plenty of places around the Port Douglas Daintree region offering up sweaty options to incorporate a little fitness into your holiday plans.

Fancy chasing the sunrise from the beach or navigating the rainforest from the river? Stand-up paddle-boarding, or SUP, is one of the world’s fastest growing sports, with holidays dedicated to the activity. The folk from Windswell have a number of options available for SUP lovers, from sunrise paddling through to island hopping and turtle tours through to paddling down ancient rainforest riverbeds This is the perfect way to keep cool in the tropical heat while exploring the world below.
THE FOUR MILE EXPERIENCE
Rather lick a cane toad than pound out another hour on the ‘dreadmill’? No worries! Mother Nature is the best gym you could ask for. Four Mile Beach is our little gift to visitors and locals, runners, walkers, yogis and meditators. Crank up the Darryl Braithwaite moments as you head towards the North Four Mile Beach stairs, climbing up to the top of the look out over the (literally) breathtaking Coral Sea.
If getting the most out of your holiday is your thing, starting the day with an inspirational group of like-minded people in the studio should get you excited. The team at Elite 818 are those crazy-happy inspired ridiculously fit people that definitely make you wanna step awaaaay from the doughnut. A mix of personal training, Crossfit and group fitness sessions all mixed in with a healthy dose of positive energy make this space the perfect place to stay on track while on holiday.
Bike N Hike
As if tearing down a steep, rocky rainforest track on two wheels wasn’t hairy enough, now you can do it blind in the middle of the night. What could possibly go wrong? The Bump Track Adventure Tour with Bike n Hike trails from the Julatten Range down through magnificent ancient rainforests to the Mowbray Valley outside Port Douglas via the historic Bump Track, all under the light of the moon and 100 Lumen LED torches attached to helmets.
Yoga practice on holiday doesn’t need to be a 90-minute heated vinyasa flow at the crack of dawn. However, if that is your jam, then when in the tropics your sun salutes should be served up with a healthy dose of humour and irreverence, ammiright? Deep Yoga Studio offers just that. Led by studio director Michael Joseph, Deep Retreat spa and massage clinic and Deep Wholefoods is a multi-modality space is dedicated to health and wellness with a good dose of laughter for the soul.
