Lights, camera, action!

Fancy yourself a Scorsese or Cameron? Epic romances or sweeping panoramic adventures your thing? Perhaps a comedy heist? Whatever you prefer, we’re calling all emerging filmmakers and film lovers to get their director’s boots on and head to Port Douglas this October for the best little film festival in town, Port Shorts.

After a huge success in 2017, The Ports Shorts Film Festival is back and ready to blow the socks off viewers with a series of short films from around the globe, and our own backyard of Tropical North Queensland. And the (other) best bit? The 2018 Port Shorts Film Festival will be staged under the stars in Port Douglas’s own Rex Smeal park, overlooking the Coral Sea and the Daintree Rainforest as the sun goes down.

STAHHHHP IT.

Alongside the Port Shorts team, legendary Australian actor Stephen Curry (The Castle), Wolf Creek Executive Producer Matt Hearn and AFI nominated screenwriter Kier Shorey (Blurred) will be tagging along for the ride as official ambassadors, hosting the event and mentoring a series of masterclasses for up-and-coming film makers. Want to find out what it’s like to sleep in a roof top tent while lions prowl around you at night, or how to wheel and deal with Hollywood heavyweights? What about creating Saturday morning RAGE-worthy music video clips? Be inspired by the innovation of drone cinematography by the people who then build the drones to do it. Do you want to know how to get past that writer’s block, or how to really become that character? These masterclasses are for you.

Okay, okay, we know you’re spoilt for choice… so for those who can’t decide what night to go to (ummmm, both, duh) or which masterclass to go to (errrm, all of them?) then the team have a pass JUST FOR YOU. The 2018 Port Shorts FESTIVAL PASS gets you entry to EVERY workshop (except youth if you’re over 18), BOTH nights of the festival AND the VIP after party at Jimmy Rum’s (if you’re over 18!). This just gets better and better.

All tickets and multipasses are available on their website www.portshorts.floktu.com. But wait, there’s MORE! The first 250 legends through the gate on Saturday night get a free Port Shorts stubby cooler. You don’t get much more Tropical North Queensland than that.

With $15,000 up for grabs in prize money in categories including open, drone, music videos and the Port Shorts young (under 18) filmmaker award., Port Shorts promises to be the night of nights of film making genius here in Port Douglas for both film makers and film enthusiasts – the coolest film festival in the heat of the tropics.
