Shakes Gelati bar

Holidays = sun, beach, palm trees and ICE CREAM. Why not? Who doesn’t love an afternoon de-light when you’ve got sandy feet and dinner feels like forever away?

We think it’s important to let you know where the best ice cream joint is to get your fix. For a time where there should be no rules, ice cream is a must.

Shakes Gelati Bar is located in the Portico Building opposite Coconut Grove. If the hot pink and bright green shop front doesn’t lure you in and take you back to childhood, the delicious display of mouth-watering flavours will entice the eyes and make the taste buds tingle.

The gelati bar is a family owned business with Nina, Rita and Peter your friendly ice cream hosts with the mosts. With 11 years in the biz and going strong – why would you go anywhere else?

So, what’s on the menu?  Shakes, ice creams, sundaes, smoothies, slushies, iced coffee and iced chocolate – you name it and they’ll have something icy and refreshing that will Hit. The. Spot.

Dietary requirements are easy to accommodate and nothing is a bother at The G Bar. Just a serve of friendly FNQ smiles, a heavy-handed scoop and sprinkles if you wish.

Sadly it hasn’t been all ice cream, rainbows and sprinkles. Tragically, Nina’s husband Dave, and fellow ice cream entrepreneur, was taken before his time. Dave was 39 when he suffered a massive stroke and their world was turned upside down.

Whilst Dave is no longer with us, you can feel his spirit in store and catch his smiling face from a picture on the wall.

In memory of Dave, Nina and the fam are raising money to go towards buying defibrillator machines which will be placed at various points around town. Three have been donated to the community already, with a fourth on the way.

So when you’ve bought your ice cream, feel free to tip a little loose change into the collection box on the counter. You might catch Dave giving you a cheeky wink from the wall and you could potentially save a life.

If you’re cruising past, make sure you pop in for your gelati fix. Say a big hello to Nina, Rita and Peter, tell them we sent you and you might get an extra big scoop, some sprinkles to boot.

Should you love ice cream more than anything else in the world and looking for a new venture, the business is actually up for sale.

Whilst this is sad for all of us who have been Gelati Bar regulars and fans, it’s a great opportunity for someone who fancies a tropical change.

We are sure the ice cream will stay the same and the new owners will also adopt the ‘don’t kick the cone a day habit’
